Deco Floral

beach motifSometimes it’s fun to create pairs of similar motifs to work with in a design.  A basic similarity in shape can only help as you work later to arrange your repeats.  I also like to pick a unifying element to bring them together.  In these beach motifs, both the color helps unify as well as the similar scroll at the bottom.  It isn’t necessary to match the color, though — the elements can speak individually as long as there is something that groups them together.

Because life should be fun, I lean more toward whimsical touches in my work.  I like the curlicues, the fun colors, the odd color out.  Who wants serious drapes anyway?  In this digital age, we can pick anything to put on fabric!   Use your imagination!
